Vintage Paris

P’Dub has kindly given us her first set of Photoshop actions. It’s like getting Rachel Ray’s prep team to prepare all your recipes to the point where you can waltz in at the last moment and “Viola” stir a bowl, pour a dish, press a button and 30 minutes a dinner for 800 starving armenians. In other woids…the lady’s done all the hard stuff while I just press a button. For the most part, I prefer to manipulate by hand because I am still such a neophyte that the process helps me to understand what works and what doesn’t work in some photos. Yet, there are a few photos that I just can’t figure out; THIS is where these actions come in handy!

Today’s handy dandy P’Dub action in action is Vintage. I have some images from Paris which are less than spectacular. I know, I know hard to believe about any image from Paris, but none the less true. So I started laying on these actions and “Vintage” opened up some beauties.

This one started it all.  I call it, “Weeping”

Buildings find new life in this format.  This was such a terrible shot in color…yet, with vintage applied, I can almost hear the rustle of taffetta and a femine giggle coming through the open window.

Even austere documentary images take on a layer of hidden meaning when given the freedom of time passage.

I am ashamed of this boring windmill…yet with the blammy from P’Dub’s tool kit and it doesn’t look so bad now does it?

Who needs H.G. Wells?  I just needed some mighty fine actions.

What were once simple throw away images have become at least visually interesting with the filter. But that is only my thought…what do you all think?

  1. Wow. It’s like being transported back in time.

  2. Isn’t it? Wild huh? I hput the SOOC shots in my flicr account for all to see and laugh at.

  3. These look like they should be clips from a silent movie. Pretty cool. I’m just wondering though, why is the first shot the more “traditional” B&W and the others are the sepia?

  4. And I meant to say, that it so true about the Rachel Ray stuff! I bought one of her cookbooks out of desperation for different food that would supposedly be quick and easy, and found relatively few recipes that actually came together in 30 minutes. Jenfera and I did a little expose on this in her blog a while back.

I just went and looked at the SOOC shots. While I agree some are a little on the lifeless side, they certainly are not to laugh at! I actually really like the punched up one of the “lovely and ethereal glass” – the French flag flying in the background of the shot is a nice touch and it stands out more in the color shot.

  5. That second photo is da bomb. I could totally see that on the cover of some juicy gothic novel.

  6. Yes, the second is my favorite too.
