Beautiful submissions everyone. I am ashamed to say that despite causing Shrew’s inspiration for this challenge, I did not participate. I am yet to snap my photographic doldrums. My camera sits sadly in its case, waiting for me to pick it up. Tapped out, uninspired, is how I am feeling.
The shots from this collection that strike me as having the greatest impact from the rule of thirds are Scott’s parrot, Renae’s Thomas the Tank, Hut’s landscape with the road leading into the city, and MM’s statue on the bench.
YES!! These are ALL great. Renae, LOVE the picture of Henry!! KD, LOVE the pictures of Lightning McQueen!! How do I know these tot favorites? They are absolute FAVORITES of my picture #2, HCD.
Jenfera and Hut, you make we wistful for DA BEACH!! These are great.
Scott, that Parrot is off the chain. And, Shrew did you travelin to HCD’s house to take those? Very nice composition.
A very successful challenge.
I took a very simple approach to this challenge. I actually am breaking down my craft and returning to the basics to improve. So my boring little oranges are the first step.
Karma, I haven’t been taking as many photos as usual these days either. Two of my submissions were from this past summer/autumn. Dig into your archives and play!
STPhoto, love the bird shot. Not only is it beautiful in coloring, but the eye just seems to flow with the curve of his body, head, and beak. BTW, did you use some sort of fill flash with that shot?
Jennifer and Hut are killing me with the gorgeous beach shots. I think Hut’s second shot is THE perfect example for this challenge…exactly one third sky, one third water, and one third beach.
MM, that flag shot is GREAT. One awesome job setting that up.
BTW, KD and STPhoto, can you guess where my sunset shot is from???
I’ll repeat what Shrew said – WOW! Lots of great photos here.
For the record, I really did take that beach picture with the chairs with the challenge in mind. I framed the chairs right there and the light was really that beautiful right before sunset. No photoshopping for that.
MM – love the flag shot! Inspired.
STPhoto – all three are fab but I have a teeny tiny issue – your stamp is a little bit large and distracting in relation to the images. Maybe if it was gray, or just smaller and more in a corner?
Ivory – thanks for showing us how it is done vertically! For some reason, that is harder for me to compose.
KD – love the red race car. The focus is perfect.
Renae – Thomas is great, where is Percy???
Shrew – I applaud your back to basics effort!
Great challenge!
renae, Thomas the Train looks great, not only following the rule but nice use of selective focus. You got some good foreground subjects for a most spectacle sunset. Hmmm…let me guess, WDW?
KD, already told you my affinity to the Cars shots. I liked the Lake George I photographed last October. I like the statue photo. Good contrast and lighting.
However, the warm locations of Jenfer and Ivoryhut warm me up. All are well composed and balanced.
MM, I want to also highlight the flag photo. Excellent eye. The lighting in your kid photos and composition make them a stand out, too.
Shrew, some nice juicy compositions. Being from Syracuse, orange is king (the color that is).
I did a lot of recomposing in the viewfinder with this challenge in mind. Slowed me down and made me think a bit. Good habits to get into. Thanks for another fun challenge, Shrew!
This was a spectacular challenge Shrew. I learned a lot and have been trying to pay attention to this rule everytime I pick up my camera.
I don’t think I have anything new to add to the discussion! Scott, that parrot photo is a stunner! MM…LOVE the composition on that flag photo…very clever, and has a lot of impact. Ivory, you make me want to SCREAM I’m so jealous! Not only of the location, but your mad skillz!!! 😉 Jen, your beach shots are also gorgeous!! Turning green at the moment. And Renae, love the silhouette! Where exactly was it taken? I’m reminded of the Caribbean Beach, but can’t be sure…
ST…you wouldn’t recognize the lake right now…it’s very abandoned. The day I took that photo, there were a few snowmobilers, and that photographer with the big-arsed camera there, and that’s it. However, the Winter Carnival starts this weekend, so things should be hopping for the next few weeks.
Shrew, going back to basics…How did your first class go, by the way?! Been meaning to ask. I love the quality of the color…what lighting did you use?
Music Maven…forgot to answer you. Yes, I used the pop up flash on my camera set to -1.0 power to give me some fill light. The room had some weird light going on. You can see the hightlight in the parrot’s eye. Good catch!
Hey, Scott – I saw you won P’dub’s latest giveaway! Congrats, you lucky dog!
🙂
Thanks, Jen!
Yes, Disney World. Hollywood Studios to be exact.
Hollywood Studios, you say? What building it that?
