IvoryHut has been working on a flickr group for our challenges…I am hoping to have that for trial for the next challenge in Dec.

LOVE barn number 4 (with the star). The colors are so soothing. And the perspective on the golf carts…love that too.

Ok, I think I have to say it; I’m not a huge fan of the orton thing. Its just not what I’m looking for from photography. I thought it was interesting at first, but the more I look at it, the more it makes me think of a painting. That said, I do love the color and composition of these shots.
Karma it’s funny that you say that, because that’s what I like about the Ortonizing effect. I like that it looks like a painting. That said, I don’t think it lends itself to all types of photography or all subjects.
That’s the cool thing about art is that we all look at it differently and all like different things. If we all liked the same thing the world would be boring 🙂
Interesting…not all were ortinized. Actually only three were. But I hear ya. I fell like I am cheating when I use it.
Now that I am past my fear of photo shop I want to go back to BASICS with the camera.
brc is right – we can’t all love the same things. Again, I think it also depends what you are trying to do with a photograph and how you intend to handle it later. If you are just putting snapshots in an album to remember family occasions and vacations, then you probably do just want full color and super sharpness.
However, if you want to get artsy and enlarge things and frame them, then anything that pleases the eye, even if it is just your eye, goes. I am loving the Ortonizing on color landscapes, like on the barn with the star. It gives it a nice dreamy quality. And if I am going to hang something on my wall, I just might like a more artsy, dreaminess to a photo.
Nice shots, Shrew! I, too, am one who likes the Orton effective on a selective basis. That said, I think you used it wonderfully on that barn shot with the star. (I also should say that I thought only two were Ortonized.)
I know this new way of posting photos helps with storage, but I think nothing beats clicking on the link to view the actual file. There’s some depth and sharpness lost when the image gets resized for posting here.
Plus, clicking on the link helps identify those things as golf carts. Renae, did you know instantly what they were? Please say no and make me feel better. 🙂
I am agreeing with you IvoryHut that something is lost in the posting this way…do you host from flickr? Your images look so much clearer.
Oh, I agree that we needn’t all love the same stuff. Full color and super sharpness isn’t needed for me to love a photo. I love interesting color and composition and expressions, whether I want to tuck them away in a photo album for happy memories or to display for all to see. We wouldn’t all be commenting here if we all loved the same thing.
I truly enjoy our diversity here at Shrewbie’s Shutters. Someone is always giving me another way of looking at something.
