Nov Challenge – Macro foods

We got some fun stuff! Some unique stuff!!

First up…Music Maven:
Green beans and bacon…mmmm bacon!

Pecans grown in her own back yard. (Shucked by her Uncle)

Orange World

Isn’t this the most beautiful orange? I love the lighting.

Next, IvoryHut…and her commentary. Ivory…your photos make me quake.

Does this count as a macro food shot?

turon flambe

Turon is essentially ripe plantain bananas with slivers of jackfruit, sprinkled with brown sugar, and wrapped in a thin egg roll wrapper then deep fried. At home, we usually serve this with a warm butter and rum syrup, and ice cream on the side.

sans rival

A sinfully rich desert of butter, cashews, crispy chewy flaky sweet wafers, and more sweet butter.

ube ice cream

No, this isn’t Photoshop gone bad. Ube is purple yam, and this purple yam ice cream is very very very good.

Trust me.

spicy mussles

These mussels were cooked in a spicy black bean sauce. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it again.

spicy mussels with mushrooms

In case the sight of mussels doesn’t appeal to you, here’s a view of the mushrooms and other julienned vegetables in the same dish.

godzilla roll

Tuna, salmon, and hamachi roll, deep-fried with tempura batter, and topped with salmon roe and a spicy dressing. It was so good that I didn’t even mind that our table was right in front of the aquarium.

fruit bowl

I guess the sticker there in the back gives it away that this isn’t an all-organic fruit bowl.

buko pandan drink

Buko is young coconut, and pandan is an aromatic leaf used to flavor rice, cream, etc.

pepper stuffed with spanish rice

My first attempt at stuffing a pepper.

I can do without bread and potatoes and pasta, but please don’t take away my rice.

Renea hits with the fruit loops of her mornings:

And now…Karmardav
cranberries before they were made into bread

dinner roll…see how the flash makes the egg wash sparkle?

Mine: Bubbly

And now…the queen of foodies, Jenfera
it all started innnocently with pears

But then BAM yolks

but was Jenfera done? No! Acorn seduction

Oooh and I could not forget brc.

She assures me this is a lable from some new hipster organic produce…I am not sure I am buying it.

Thanks to everyone who submitted photos. It was great fun to see it all.

Now…December’s Challenge…document an expression of joy. Not what brings you joy, but someone expressing joy.

Is Dec. 20th too early in this crazy hectic season?

  1. Sigh. Bacon. Yum.

Karen, how did the cranberry bread turn out? I suddenly have a craving for a cranberry muffin. With a side of bacon.

Nice job with the yolks and the fruit loops. It was almost like I could touch them on my screen!

Brc, we should go food shopping together. 🙂

Shrew, lovely photos of delicious bubbly. Now I’m thirsty!

Needs me some bubbly. With a side of bacon.

  2. Great job everyone. I was completely unable to come up with a decent food shot. I didn’t intend for Shrew to post my graffiti picture here with all of the lovely food 🙂

MM I MUST have the recipe for the green beans and bacon. It looks delish. I also like the last orange photo. I like the natural lighting.

Ivory as always you have very unique angles and great composition on all your photos. I think the muscles and godzilla rolls are my favorites.

Renea the fruit loops are fabulous. The depth of field is great with the focus on that purple loop standing at attention. I might have been able to take a picture if I had thought beyond the Thanksgiving box. I never thought about everyday food… stupid me.

Karma, the cranberries look luscious. Were you by a window or did you use a flash on that one?

Shrew, the bubbly pics are beautiful. The shallow depth of field and the reflections really capture the beauty of the subject.

And lookit Jenfera gettin’ all creative on us. The fruit is beautiful. Could be a painting. And the yolks!!! By next year I’ll convert all of you to abstract photography 🙂

  3. Wow, I am hungry sitting here looking at all this luscious food.

Ivory – you certainly have some very unique and delicious looking food; I am especially intrigued by the turon flambe. I think we should have some on the shutter gourmet dive trip next summer – what do you all think? 😀 The cranberry bread was yummy (it had pecans in it, MM!) but it is a simple, time-tested recipe that would be difficult to mess up even for me.

MM – I think that is awesome you can grow your own pecans! I assume they need a southern clime like yours since I’ve never noticed them growing around these parts.

brc – I stood by a window to get the cranberry shot. My kitchen was a bit dim and I wasn’t happy with the color I was getting when I used the flash. Dear hubby held the bowl of berries for me near the sliding glass door while I took the picture.

jen – is that your “pears with rotting tomatoes” still life from the blog? 😉

Shrew – I don’t think the 20th is super early, but I know I’d have a great chance at getting an expression of joy on Dec. 25th!

  4. I can vouch for Karma’s cranberry bread! It was delish! Quite lovely with a little butter for breakfast the day after Thanksgiving.

MM, that is a serious amount of bacon with those green beans! Looks more like the bacon is seasoned with grean beans than the other way ’round. Nice take on the oranges. Usually I think of sunny oranges, but those are some moody oranges. I like it. And I want to eat those pecans.

Ivory – fabulous unusual stuff! Love the detail on the mussels.

Renae – fruit loops were such a perfect choice for you! Cool angle.

Shrew – let’s party! Love the champagne shots! Looks like it should be in a magazine ad for bubbly.

brc – I was totally thinking of you with the acorn squash close-ups! And yes, Karma, that is a repeat – Still Life with Pears & Rotting Tomatoes, Jennifer Adams, circa 2007, pixels on monitor.

    😉

  5. oh, p.s. – my SDJ is cracking down on personal internet use. I will unfortunately probably only be visiting blogs nocturnally.
    😦

  6. Hey y’all. Did ya notice that Shrewbie has a Flickr Photostream now? I just have to add that your niece is gorgeous.

  7. Yeah MM, fork over that bean and bacon recipe, puhleez! And your second orange shot is gorgeous.

Hut, can we come to your house for dinner? I think the pepper with spanish rice would be another recipe I wouldn’t mind having.

Karen, love the sheen on the berries!

Just to clarify, and so y’all don’t think I’m a complete child, those were Fruity CHEERIOS in my bowl. See, doesn’t that sound more grown up and healthier than Fruit Loops???! haaaaa!

Shrew, I hope this post wasn’t as painful as last month and we kept you up all night!

  8. In fact, it is within the price range that is estimated for other impressive tablets that can be found
in the market. It has a 2-megapixel rear-facing camera and a
5-megapixel front-facing one. Being a computer and laptop manufacturer, the company jumped in tablet PC market soon
    after they came into market.

  9. It also allows you to capture & store videos while you are out for a tour or picnic with friends.
And with good reason because sometimes running an app on the big screen is
nothing short of magical. Customers seeing those two price points might hesitate to buy Microsoft’s option.

  10. The experience: I had to have someone come in to set up my computer,
