Shuttet Challenge – Jenfera gets hooked up

On Sunday, I ventured to the Holyoke Mall to Best Buy to look for a new laptop. I had a Best Buy gift card in my hot little hands to put toward it.

I went in looking for the Toshiba that was on sale this week, but this Gateway was only $50 more and had a bigger hard drive and a handy 5-in-1 drive. Here it is on the front seat, with my poor old Toshiba, picked up from the Geek Squad on top.

When I got it home, I couldn’t wait to open it up and get it going. This security seal slowed me down! A cheap paring knife came to my rescue.

Finally, I got it open. It was nicely tucked away in foam.

The goods spread out on my dining room table.

It asked me a few questions before I started it up, and told me how wonderful it was before it actually got going.

In no time at all, I was back online and breathing a sigh of relief!

I must say, Jen, that last shot made my day!

Did I sound like Ed Grimley then?

  1. jenfera! Congratulations on the new laptop! I’m just a *wee* bit jealous! πŸ˜‰
I think my favorite shot is the close-up of the security tag! Great angle. πŸ™‚ Oh, and did I mention I’m just a *wee* bit jealous? *turning a lovely shade of green*

  2. I may have to be following in your footsteps soon. This laptop I am sitting here writing on right now has been acting strangely lately – screen brightens and darkens often on its own. And what’s a 5-in-1 drive?

  3. So exciting Jenfera! Your new computer looks REALLY nice. Having a giftcard makes these purchases even sweeter!
Thanks for taking us along on your journey.

  4. Thanks everybody! I wanted to point out that I felt like a real weirdo standing in the parking garage at the mall taking a picture of Best Buy! But for the sake of this website, I was willing to make the sacrifice!

KD – don’t be too jealous of me. The only reason I was buying a new one is because I spilled a cup of tea on my old one and I didn’t have accidental damage protection. I am actually still kind of bummed that I had to go spend all this money! Okay, maybe I didn’t have to, per se, but in order to maintain the lifestyle to which I am accustomed I coughed up the cash.

The good news is that I didn’t really lose any critical files, but I just realized that one particular photo that I wanted is now lost. Apparently, I never posted it anywhere online. I had taken pictures of my crabapple tree in bloom, and then with the apples, and one more time after an ice storm with the apples encased in ice. I was going to print them and display them all together in a group. I lost the plain apple one. I guess I will just have to wait and take that one again this summer! Wish me a good crabapple crop!

Karma – a 5-in-1 drive can take most kinds of memory cards – SD, XD, MMC, Memory Stick… and, uh, I forget the 5th! My camera uses a Memory Stick, but my camera phone uses a microSD so it works out well for me.

  5. Ha, I like Shrew’s title…”jenfera gets hooked up”. Stop going to all those singles bars, would ya? Mr. Jenfera is bound to find out ya know.

Fer, didn’t you have that crabpapple pic up on Picasa? I feel like I saw it on there??

  6. Great job, Jenfera. I am drooling over your new toy as I struggle with surfing the web on a tiny iPod here on the couch. I was laughing when I read, “and told me how wonderful it was before it actually got going.” Exactly! By the way, I think the other memory card not mentioned might be CompactFlash.

Renae, I was cracking up too when you told Jen to stop going to singles bars. Bwahahaha. Man, all this laughing may get me into trouble. I just may end up ripping a stitch in my mouth.
